Wow, I had forgotten to blog about these all semester! I have gone to several events and each will be detailed in it's own blog post so here is the first.
Shamrock Fest! As an event this was pretty awesome. A huge group of people were there as to be expected with any DC101 event. This was a celebration of the Irish culture and what that means in the US. Which is a complex way to say lots of good food, good beer, and good music. All of the bands there were rooted in the celtic tradition, and had a sound that was reminiscent of Ireland but was unique to each band. For instance, the Dropkick Murphys headlined and kicked ass with their signature hard-driving Boston celt-punk. Immediately preceding them was Carbon Leaf, a celtic/folk/rock band from Virginia. Each band was unique and the experience was something else entirely.

Update
Well filming is finally finished after two weeks of illness, cold and craptastic weather. I have all of the capture done, and all that is left is sequencing and the few post production effects I need to put in place. I've had issues with my health, actor availability, interpersonal conflict within the cast, uncooperative weather, issues with equipment and minor computer problems. Somehow it's all going to work.

Getting ready to shoot
I'm at the edge of the great endeavor! I have the script and cast and location and tomorrow I shoot FAt Men Don't Run. It's been a pain to get everyone on the same page and in the same place to shoot as everyone has wildly conflicting schedules ("I can't do saturdays" when no one else can do sunday). I have had other issues with cast, one of the actresses broke her collarbone, then the replacement realized that he had a conflict in scheduling, forcing me to step in. I hope it works out. The Plot moves on.

Progress, ever progress.
The script is done and now I must battle the weather. In order to make the most of what short windows of good weather I will have, I'm setting up some barebones story boards and blocking diagrams to expedite the process of shooting. Dear god I hope this weather holds.

Bam, script DONE!
Finished the first draft of the script for Fat Men Don't Run. That's my movie you see. So after meeting with Jason we've decided that I need to do some storyboards and camera diagrams to solidify wat I need to do. Considering that it's February and my shoot is outside, I'll need to make the most of my time. I have permission to use locations I've scouted and written around (spoilers: It's in my backyard) so I'm all set on that front. I'm beginning a lot of the other preproduction and I can't wait to start shooting.

Capstone progress... is totally happening
So here is the first post in a long time, I know. So far for capstone, I have talked to my director and decided on a project and found a few sources for helping me to brush up on weaker spots in my knowledge of my project areas. My project is...wait for it, a short film. I'm aiming to do a short slasher film incorporating elements of humor. I aim to make it a high body count film at around a body a minute for a 10 minute film. The point is to get to the meat of the attraction of a slasher flick in short film form. Making it intense and enjoyable are the main points. Cheers all, and as always, the Plot Moves On.

truffles!
so this holiday season I have re-discovered an old love of mine...cooking! but I have discovered her wearing some sexy new clothing...chocolate! yes, my not-so-devoted followers, I have become a CONFECTIONERY WIZARD!!!! For my holiday gifts, I decided to give out some tasty treats instead of the usual store bought shit. It means more that way. Also I'm a poor college student. So I began making cinnamon roasted almonds for people. Then, I found another recipe, this one for chocolate covered liquor cordials. I had to try. It crashed and burned the first time. The second time it only crashed. I got about a 50% yield out of the second batch, and Now I have found the thing that truly makes me want to be able to make beautiful candies... Truffles. As I write this post I am in the process of making a batch of dark chocolate and coffee truffles, after a sucessful batch of plain chocolate ganache ones...Wish me luck and as always, The Plot Moves On.
